National Eat Beans Day/Baked Beans Month

I have a confession to make…. I always say that I don’t like something when I’ve never tried. I hate, hate, hate when people put pressure on my to try new foods. Why don’t they get that I’m perfectly happy eating the same thing everyday??

Such was the case with Baked Beans and Maple Syrup, but I recently gave in and holy crap, I feel like I need to write a letter apologizing to my taste buds for depriving them all these years. And I only tried the canned kind!

Knowing that homemade is usually better than canned, I got on Pinterest (because it’s basically Google Images and found this recipe for Canadian Maple Baked Beans and…. it by one of my favorite bloggers Oh She Glows!!! Score :) I’m drooling just thinking about how happy I am it’s cookout/bbq season. I need to stop.

National BBQ Month

Oh May, how I love you for the simple fact that I can each as much bbq sauce as I want because I’m “celebrating.” Yep, during your thirty-one days I can even take direct shots of BBQ sauce and not feel guilty about it… maybe a little disgusted with myself, but not guilt.

And speaking of barbecues, I have to share with you one of my three largest pet peeves. At school, occasionally a student organization will grill some hamburgers and hot dogs and veggie burgers on the quad and give them out. They advertise these little get-togethers as “barbecues” but the problem is THEY NEVER HAVE ANY BBQ SAUCE!! I mean serisously! How dare they taunt me by using that word and then let me down. If you’re not gonna have any sauce, call it a cookout. Geez. Okay, I’ll calm down now, taking some deep breathes.Think about some Sweet Baby Ray’s

I don’t think I’ll ever forgive them, clearly, they’ve traumatized me for life. And to all you people who are like “well, they probably cook it on a bbq” - back off! those machines are called grills, don’t get it twisted yo.

PS- are you a member of the nbba? Yeah, my mind was blown by this too.

Blue Ribbon BBQ

OH MY…. YUM. Yes, that’s right, in case you are wondering, there is an amazingly, ridiciously, awesome BBQ place in Boston the generally Boston area (if you need a car to get there, your not in Boston). And since I know you’re a smart little cookie, I’m not even gonna tell you the name

My favorite thing on the menu, besides, of course, everything including the dessert, is the cornbread (geez, how many commas can I put in one sentence). THIS IS REAL CORNBREAD PEOPLE, not that crap that occasionally has corn kernels in it. And the second best cornbread I’ve ever had. Makes you seriously want some right?! (oh and incase you were wondering about the best, my mom takes the cake… mad props for that stuff). But I also love love love love (three just wouldn’t suffice) the dream bar, pecan pie, pulled pork, pulled chicken, and mashed potatoes - they give you a lot a food there :)

This stuff is legit, and yes I am an excellent judge of legitimacy.

I like this place so much, I even considered buying a t-shirt. Yep. I will shameless promote them for no money (PURE DEDICATION), but free food in return would be nice… While I’ve only been twice (but I had it once at a catered event = 3 times) the 7 mile, 45 minute, painfully slow/stop and go drive up Mass Ave. is well worth it. So get in your car and go, go, go… GO NOW.

I’ve already picked out a place for them to open one in Boston, conveniently located next to my apartment. What could be better? Answer: Nothing, expect maybe a super awesome pun using “Blue Ribbon” but I’m not that clever.
